Does anyone know how to convert a standard SPSS file (with the extension .sav) into an SPSS Syntax file (.sps) containing all the definitions of the .sav file?

Not really what i'm looking for. It needs to be a permanent solution and we can't be purchasing any other packages.

I was thinking that it would be something SPSS itself could do, after all, it has no trouble running .sps to produce the .sav

No idea then, I'm afraid - don't use SPSS myself, have only heard of it because it was once used instead of Stata.
