Is there anywhere that I can download music legally, cheaper than iTunes?
The title says it all really, I can think of a few songs that I would like to download but I feel that the amount charged by iTunes is still a bit steep. Especially seeing that before it was sued for a trillion dollars by the American music industry I was a member of allofmp3.com and was frequently downloading songs for under 10p, foolishly thinking that it was legal. However, seeing as I go to New York tomorrow I feel that some new music is in order for the plane but don't want to have to spend a fortune.
Therefore, where can I LEGALLY download songs ad albums for a lesser price than at iTunes?

www.napster.com costs £15 for as many songs as you want to download to your MP3 player. You don't own the songs though, and if your membership lapses your downloaded songs won't play. Unless you choose to buy them rather than rent that is.

Once you stop paying the subscription songs you've downloaded but not bought will no longer play. If you've bought them then they're yours forever.

so how do the songs on your MP3 player 'know' that you're no longer paying to rent if you never plug it in or connect to the internet?
iirc they have a sort of timer inbuilt which needs to be updated or the file wont play

To 'rent' and play only from your pc: £10 p/m
To 'rent' and put on an MP3 player (not Ipod btw) £15 p/m
To buy per track is 79p each iirc.
