retro, i used to work in the travel inn at haymarket & although its typical of these types of hotels ( layout etc ) the staff are all local & know how to enjoy a night out in the town & its got a great location for getting around & wont break the bank enjoy your stay in our capital mate!

Cheers. I will enjoy it - I love Edinburgh, and I actually wanted to go in the winter... I think the biting cold adds to the atmosphere!

My other half has been looking at Trip Advisor and people have been critical of some of the hotels mentioned - but I said feck them, I'd rather take advice from the people on here.

The only thing about getting a hotel up the bridges is there's too many jakeys and junkies hanging around. You also have everyone coming out of nightclubs and pubs, so you tend to get woken a lot.

Bank hotel has a brilliant location and meant to be quite nice. Jurys is meant to be decent and the Bonham is good too (although can be pricey).

Worth asking for a quote from that site though

One couple have had a baby, the others have inconveniently just bought a house!

tbf I'm happy to just see the sights and sounds of Edinburgh - although I could do without the "jakeys and junkies".
