Would probably prefer the Haymarket type B&B to the Travelodge. More character.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Here's a cople of links for hotels that I've visited, both are fairly central with very good bus servives

A wee bit further out that Haymarket, but next to Arthur Seat and located next to main bus route into Edinburgh

However, it's still only about 10 - 15 mins walk from The Bridges

Haymarket

Just make sure you don't book when the Rugby (6 nations) is on as most B&B's are full and tend to be more expensive.

had a quick check before leaving there works out at about £280 for the Carlton nice hotel and dead in the centre.

Guess it just depends on how drunk you are planning on getting

Six Nations is February isn't it? We're going in December.

Will check out the Carlton gav (well, I'll check out all suggestions ofc). £280 is within the budget.

Don't like rugby, so I'm never sure when it's on.

Carlton seems to work out at around £350-£400!

It's the one that's part of Paramount Hotels right?

The Roxburghe on Charlotte Square is beautiful, not much more than £100 p/n if I remember. The website is playing up at the moment, but it's worth a look. http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/roxburghe/index.htm
