It wouldn't be ridiculous because if the goal was rightfully given, the goal at the other end would never have happened. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes, logically that is the case. However the idea that a passage of play is discardeded and the game clock is turned backwards is utterly absurd.

Really good effort with the sarcasm.

Your team will not perform well if they have no passion, so if you don't give a **** about it, you should, as it relates to what do give a **** about. </BLOCKQUOTE>

It's just Andy being Andy.

I don't see it as absurd but as correcting a mistake

It's like saying let's replay one of yesterdays game from the 25th minute because of a bad decision.

Blimey, I love how things get over dramatised on here, Taz, calm down mate, I dont want no trouble.

The Rugby players lost to what I saw as a far superior team, the footballers crumble reguarly against teams we should be beating comfortably with the players we have.

I'm not saying passion is the sole reason England are ****, just that it might help if the team showed some of the spirit the Rugby boys do, on the pitch more than anything, I was just using the anthem as an example, not saying we'd win every game if everyone sings it.

Regarding video replays, I was only really thinking about goal line situations, I know I said for "whatever reason" in the initial post but I wasn't saying I want them for pens, free kicks, corners and every stop in play, yes there are 38 games in a season and its swings and rounabouts with decisions during the season but some make or break it, I also like the suggestion divers being punished after the game is good.

I also wasn't saying I want footballers to start kicking the crap out of each other, simply that it would be nice if they didn't feel the need to lay down for a few minutes when they are not genuinely hurt.

I'm off to bed, work in 4 hours.

and there is the main problem with England football fans. "OMG we should be beating Russia/Croatia by 5 clear goals as we're the best like"

Like the original poster I'm not a huge Rugby fan, but all four of his points ring true to me. Would love to see more passion in the build up, plus the barracking of refs is starting to go to far IMO...

Is it really too much to ask for our football players to learn and sing the national anthem when representing their country. For me it shows a lack of respect when you see the players not singing - if our fans can stand up and sing the anthem then why can't they ??

it's the attitude of football players and football fans and refereeing which need changing and for that, Rugby Union is a good example of how to actually behave.

That ref last night took no crap (not that he had much anyway even with the contentious try) the players respected his decisions didn't surround him, didn't try to bully him and got on with it.

When was the last time any of that happened at a football match?

As for the fans, ok they're mainly a bunch of middle class berks but sweeping generalisations aside there was passion without the under current of violence. The fans were able to mingle, there was no trouble (that I know to) and they took the defeat.

Big difference to English domestic football fans if you ask me.

Football needs to take a good long look at itself and so do the fans.
