Well the difference of course is that Southampton is a port, so all these rich people can park their yachts there. So of course they're going to be more attractive than Everton. Oh, wait.....

I'm very much clutching at straws but there is breaking news that Paul Allen has sold off $150m shares in Dreamworks

Reuters6th August 2007

The last time he did something similar was when he purchased Seattle Seahawks:

(Dated March 6, 1996 New York Times)

Paul Allen co-founder of the Microsoft Corporation, Paul Allen, has sold 700,000 Microsoft shares worth about $70 million in the last two weeks.

Susan Pierson, a spokeswoman for Mr. Allen, said on Monday that she had no comment on whether his reported interest in buying the Seattle Seahawks football team had anything to do with the sale. Mr. Allen sold the 700,000 shares Feb. 20 to 22, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Share prices ranged from $97.75 to $102.50. Microsoft's stock closed today at $98.125, up $1.875, in Nasdaq trading.

Maybe he is raising capital to buy a "soccer" club. I can dream

LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Dreamworks Animation SKG Inc. (DWA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday an entity controlled by Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) co-founder Paul Allen is cutting its stake in the company to nearly 7 million shares from 21 million shares.

Allen said he also planned to resign from the Dreamworks board.

The billionaire will sell about 10 million shares of Dreamworks common stock in a public offering underwritten by Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc.

Additionally, Dreamworks will repurchase $150 million of common shares held by the entity, DW Investment II Inc.

A Dreamworks spokesman said the company estimated Allen's stake will be somewhere between 6 million and 7 million shares after the transactions.

The company's stock closed up 11 cents to $32.97 a share on the New York Stock Exchange.

"The reduction in our position in Dreamworks Animation is part of an ongoing effort to rebalance the Vulcan Capital portfolio," said Allen in a statement.
