Ah I see.
I think the 4 weeks of airplay before release is to build up interest and try to get as much sales as possible in the first week of release so that they chart highly.

by then either:
someone's found it & uploaded it so its been available for 3 weeks before release
people are so sick of it if it charts it'll be so far down it'll be deemed a failure
or
people think "ah it'll be on the radio enough i wotn bother paying for it" </BLOCKQUOTE>
Which is a result of 1/ Most pop music having no real value in terms of longevity, basically songs that will be forgotten or get annoying before it comes around to realease.
and 2/ The people who tend to like pop music being more casual music fans, so are less likely to spend money on music if they can get it for free. </BLOCKQUOTE>
no, its that anything will given time become annoying, grate on you and eventually become something you cant stand.
i wasn't specifically talking about 'pop music', any music- if say a song has say 5 weeks on average staying in the chart- if its played 4 weeks before release then in the mind of the general public come the big day its already been around for 4 of those weeks & they'll be sick of it
