Torre was the Manager of the New York Yankees up until last week and one of the classiest men in the game. The Yankees offered him a one year contract with incentives that was 30% lower than last year's. He turned in down correctly reading that it was an insult and designed to get him to leave so they didn't have to fire him.
Embarassing.
P.S. Funny to me that lots of folks don't know who he is. I have to remember that here no one knows who Alex Ferguson is either. By the way, not a bad comparison.
The comparison with Alex Ferguson would be more accurate if we were talking about Bill Belichick since Ferguson is coaching in the most popular sport in his country. Joe Torre would be like *insert famous cricket coach* since he's coaching in one of the most popular sports in his country.
