Default A neutral view for England

To sum up how you played having watched the game and supported neither team the words used would have to be "self destructive".

England last night had the beating of Germany but failed to make the right changes in the team. Joe Cole was inventive and dangerous all night and Germany would have been undone if they had of faced both Cole and Wright-Philips attacking from wide. Instead they had to deal with a paceless Beckham who from my view just gave the ball away about 70% of the time and played behind everyone were he did nothing dangerous. Another problem with Beckham that was clearly evident is that if he wishes to play right back then where exactly was Brown supposed to go?

Although the keeper made a howler it is easy to make him a scapegoat, there was plenty of time to get things right against Germany B.

After the game McClaren stated that if Beckham played like that he would be in for September! Now I am sure managers do not get sarcastic with players in post match interviews so that means he viewed his performance as a positive? The view from the commentators was similar to my own and also talked of how McClaren could not withdraw Beckham.

The sponsor deals that insist Beckham plays must surely be the scapegoat you need if you do not qualify as to blame a manager who clearly could not make the changes he desired is unjust however poor at the job he has been.

Your thoughts?

honestly why are people raving about Joe cole's performance? for me Beckham was way better last night.

Cole played with his headdown, all his "great forward surgues" ended up with Germany in possetion, he slipped 3 times in the final thrid and like Lampard never once looked to play the ball in the final 3rd.

can someone think of one chance created by Joe Cole? putting your head down and running past one guy then losign the ball is not something that impresses me.

i guess people are so down on England right now they are looking for any ray of light.

he did nothing last night.

Dyer should not have played at all, nor should have Smith and Wes Brown.

Owen looks good.
