Right then, Newcastle this weekend, usual questions...
Heading to Newcastle tomorrow for a weekend with a few lads. Shall be taking in the Sunderland game, and partying at night.
What are the best places to go out around Newcastle? Is what Freddie Sheppard said about the woman true? How do you feel an Irish accent will go down with the opposite sex? Is the reputation of it being a violent place at the weekend justified? I know nowhere is totally safe, but Newcastle has a bit of a rep for getting a little hairy about 3:00am on a Friday..
TBH, The lads I'm going with have been twice before, but I'd rather have some sort of semblence where I'm going that night before I get there...

Night out depends on what you are after. If you like it full-on then the Bigg Market is your best bet. Expect to see plenty of charvas though and it's probably as rough as a night in the town gets. If you want things a bit more low key - try the Quayside, or around Central Station. Plenty good bars in either place.
Not sure what The Gate is like - perhaps some of the younger lads might be able to offer advice on that one.

Newcastle is pretty cosmopolitan these days. It's got a huge student population and also there's plenty of folk from all 4 corners of the UK who come up here for a weekend on the lash.

If you're a moron and want to go to places like the Bigg Market for your stereotypical Geordie night out, then all of your fears are about to be confirmed: the women are foul, screeching beasts and there will be the occasional bit of violence. Your Irish accent will go unnoticed because you won't be able to have a conversation of any kind in any of the places you visit. Idiots lack the social skills to talk to each other and prefer to stand in silence, in small groups, drinking. Bars in the Bigg Market recognise this.
If you're not after a moron holiday, I could recommend a few other places but I want to make sure you're not first, in case you come and ruin a pub I'm actually in.
