I think Most Haunted has been very clever. On one hand it does rope some people in - but it's actually laughably entertaining to those it doesn't rope in (usually spouses of those it does rope in).

No they just sit there and cheer before and after the immensely regular commercial breaks.

They aren't involved in the 'vigil' except the one person picked out of the audience to join the team.

I think when it was claimed in the media that the show was fake/setup. Going back a couple of years ago now though.
