That would probably depend upon how the Porto - Maseille fixtures pan out. If one takes 6 points off the other than 8/9 points may be enough (so long as we beat the loser).

9 certainly can be enough. I was more thinking generally, as in how often would teams go through with 9, and how often go out. And equally, whether any/many teams go out with 10 points.

if porto and marseille both win their home games against each other (not really THAT great a stretch), and both beat besiktas (again, not a stretch their either), then ten points would tie the scousers in second, and it'd come down to head to head results.
