My problem is, gents, that I've got a box of biscuits from Tesco that just so happen to be 14 days out of date. No receipt, so can't take them back. I opened them and they taste a bit soft but really nice. How am I meant to know if they're bad or not, I've never eaten them before?! Dilemma...

Retro spot on. Best before should be OK. Be more careful about 'use by' dates. But, if you use a bit of common sense and smell / look at the item you should be OK.

Depends what it is, and whether it looks and smells ok or not.
Obviously fish, dairy you have to be careful.
But I wouldn't throw somehting out that was past its date without having a good sniff first

If I've got some dates on my food I normally pick them out. I'm not a fan of them.

Milk that's off or smelling a bit funky brings on wretching for me - so I'm the same.
