Best before/ display until are all legal requirements of supermarkets more than anything

Retro spot on. Best before should be OK. Be more careful about 'use by' dates. But, if you use a bit of common sense and smell / look at the item you should be OK.

Depends what it is, and whether it looks and smells ok or not.

Obviously fish, dairy you have to be careful.

But I wouldn't throw somehting out that was past its date without having a good sniff first :thup:

My mum laughs at me about this as i tend to stick to these dates and i just bin anything out of date - especially meat and dairy.

She's really really bad with medicene thouhg, she's got antiseptic creams that have 2005 dates on them which she claims are "perfectly fine"

Only thing i m really fussy with is milk. I once had sour milk and it tasted like ****, and ever since i dont drink the stuff unless its well within its sell by date

If I've got some dates on my food I normally pick them out. I'm not a fan of them.

Depends on the medicine.

I got some shower thingie that are expired since 2003 but if i have any sort of skin thingie (forgot what it's called) i apply that shower gel and within 2 days it's gone.
