It's related. There's an explanation of the scale on Wikipedia. But I bet if you took some old essays, OTF posts or something and correlated them you'd probably get similar results

Put a few of my technical papers in and got a Flesch reading ease of 24.6, and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level of 16.8

I suppose it's due to the fact they're technical papers, so a lot of jargon?

Go to Microsoft Word. Use Help. Type Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level. Press Enter.

There's an explanation.

I'm always needlessly complex, flesch reading ease tends between 25 and 35 and words per sentence between 20 and 30.

Personally I don't give a **** if the average person has a problem understanding my writing.
