If we carry on like this then the states will end up better than the brits, they are getting close enough as it is.

Crap idea. You can tell because Magnusson thinks it's a good one.

Makes more sense if its a one-off game, like the Community Shield. The summer friendly tours in the US sell a load of tix, so people would probably be up for it. And if its the CS, you could probably bring the two teams over a week or so before the match and do all kinds of exhibitions and publicity. Might be good for the EPL, sell some jerseys, etc.

the italian 'supercup' was played in New York a few years ago, between Milan and Juventus. if what the media said was true both teams made a massive profit from the game compared to if they had played it in Torino (juve were the league holders iirc) </BLOCKQUOTE>

yeah but Juve season tickets were about £70 or something stupid were they not? and they rarely got more than 25,000 fans in, certainly not for the equivalent of a charity shield match. Can't see it being worth it for the Premier League. </BLOCKQUOTE>

not exactly, juve had lower league attendence than they should because most of their fans are from southern italy and therefore tended not to travel for every league game, it would have cost them a fortune. the one off games like the super cup(or in the case of the cup two games) juve tended to have a full stadium. besides which juve-milan/juve-inter games were full capacity. and when juve played a milanese team san siro would be full, and the capacity is 70-80k or more iirc(could be mistaken).

Yeah everyone knows the Juve fans hate the Delle Alpi. Hence the low attendances.

well they wouldn't would they? Hiring stadium, paying for policing, staff to work at the game. Obviously you have to pay for the latter 2 during a normal fixture but i bet the overheads would be greater.

they could put it at giants stadium or fedex field and net £3m just from the luxury suites.

It is totally conceivable they could easily make 3million per team from a game, providing the demand is there form corporate sponsors and the like. Hike up the prices to something silly, hike in TV rights, special sponsorship deals (provided these could be worked through), corporate hospitality, etc...
