Chances are if a PL match was played in America, it wouldn't be a big match. It would probably be a match-up of either one big @ a small or two mid-tier/smaller clubs. Much like the NFL in London experiment.

I'd only see a 'big' match in the US/Asia if there was reciprocity so both areas still saw the economic benefits of sports tourism, so it would require trading the extremely big matches (CL for Super Bowl for example).

Not going to argue with the rest of your post b/c as you said it's all largely opinion.

My fiance goes to miami univ and I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere but she told me that the tickets are still being sold for the Miami vs NY game for the Dolphins stadium! Apparently they are going to televise the game in the stadium and serve British cuisine at the game, so their not only getting revenue from London but still getting some from home as well. I'm curious as to how many show up to the stadium to watch it on the jumbo tron.

Heres a link to average attendances:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attendance_figures...ional_sports_leagues

So the NFL nearly doubles the average attendance of premiership games, which is on par with MLB attendances. Then take into account that MLB teams play 162 games a season and hardly ever sell out a game until near the end of a season and playoffs. In fact the NCAA (american college football) has an average attendance of 46,000.

Looking at those numbers you can understand why gaining a reasonable percentage of fans in the U.S. would equate to a very nice revenue stream for premiership sides.

Would if it were made even more interesting, MLS, Mexico Primera teams, South American teams, England and any other interested sides participating in a new trans-atlantic knockout cup. Boca Juniors vs Arsenal final in NY? I for one would be the first to purchase a plane ticket.

Cheers for the answer. Not sure FIFA would allow teams to play their qualifiers out of their home country though. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Isn't there a country in South America, not sure which one but Bolivia and Peru stick out in my mind, who are actually forced to due to the new laws about altitude? </BLOCKQUOTE>What Albion said. Peru wanted to play at Ciecenciano (sp.), but this is practically on another planet so FIFA said no. However, they have other venues in the country. Not sure but I think Bolivia can still play in La Paz. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Peru wanted to play in Cusco or Arequipa, but FIFA vetoed both places as they were not registered in time for the WC Quals start. So, they are playing their games in Lima.

Bolivia still play their games in La Paz while Ecuador play in Quito.

Cienciano is the name of the club that play in Cusco.

I'm not sure, my fiances brother is a fin fan and hes going to it so I'll try to find out. And also there was a lot of mention in this thread about season ticket holders being upset?

Think about this one, fin season ticket holders still had the ticket for the London game...so the majority aren't going so they have been selling the tickets for a nice profit. So a sold out premiership game in the US, would season ticket holders really be that upset of missing a home game if they turned a very nice profit from selling it on ticketmaster or the like?

Depends on which team you are going to see

To even be given the chance to get season tickets for some of the top level college teams (with 70,000+stadiums) you have to donate money on top of buying the tickets.

Single game tickets run between $50 and $1000 depending on the teams playing and the stadium

To use Michigan as an example:

They have a 107,501 capacity stadium. To renew your season tickets you have to donate money in addition to buying your season tickets, minimum is $50 per seat with the 50-yard line seats requiring $500 per seat. Moving to another location is contingent on your annual donation level as well, to move to those 50-yard seats requires donations somewhere between $10,000 to $20,000 annually for just two tickets. I couldn't find how much the season tickets themselves are, but I suspect they are fairly high.

Single game tickets are $40 per at Florida and season tickets are $224. Of course those season tickets come with a sizable donation requirement as well.

I also want to point out that these season tickets are for 6-8 home games, and people are shelling out thousands a year to have the chance to buy them.

That is all true, I went to Mizzou and our football team wasn't that great and even with student discounts and ticket events during the season it would still cost about $50-$100 depending on who they were playing, and most students who got the tickets sold them online for 3x as much we had to pay (though the tickets had a watermark on them indicating it was for Mizzou students only but the gate workers usually never cared nor checked).

ALL the dolphin fans i know are livid with the horrible managment of the team, from Cant Cammeron to Wayne Hyzenga (sp). they are afraid this team might be the worst in the NFL in 30+ years and they will screw up next years draft to boot

With the draft, salary cap/free agent signing I'm sure the Dolphins will have a new team next season and some great options in the draft as well. The Rams or Dolphins will end up with the #1 & #2 draft picks and probably trade them for 2 1st round picks or several later round. I'm sure both teams are looking to bulk up in the free agent signing period and then fill in the missing pieces in the draft. It's better to be the worst team in the league than a mediocre team and miss the playoffs and still only get a mid round pick.

Teams bounce back so fast in this salary cap era that I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dolphins in the playoffs next year. Detroit was I think 3-13 last season, 2nd worst team in the NFL and now their 4-2 and 1 game difference than Green Bay who leads their division.

Saints were 3-13 in 2005 and Ravens 6-10, both bottom of their division. In 2006 Saints were 10-6 and Ravens 13-3 and both clinched their division. Unless they turn into the Raiders...but the Raiders are in the toughest division in the NFL to be fair.
