Isn't the whole term "B"-team just a cop out for not expecting results when playing anyone but the strongest squad???

IMO there is no such thing as a "B"-team but then again I don't think that friendlies should count for anything (in the statistical/ranking way that is, a players performance can still be judged ofc).
