For the last 5-6 years Michael Owen has been getting injured, conveniently repaired before a major championship, gets injured there and so on.
Each time England managers automatically pick this guy. What the hell does he have on them? How is it that Owen who has played less than 10 games since the world cup can walk into the England team over players like, Bent, Defoe, and Johnson etc... who week in week out turn out for their clubs.
At the last worldcup the focus was on Sven selecting Walcott and not where it should have been on the selection of Owen who yet again had missed half the season and had less than 3 games under his belt when he was picked.
So we have last night where he's picked again. Has he started a prem game for Newcastle? Is he their No1 striker?
No! yet he's picked because wait for it, McMuppet felt that Michael needed 60 minutes of play? Why is that the responsibility of the England manager to give him 60 minutes training time.
And aren't memories short in the Owen fan-club of Hansen and Lawro together with the press who after Owens lame performance in the last WCup were righting his international career off. You certainly haven't questioned Owen's automatic selection for England when he has done nothing since the last worldcup to justify selection. That is your job isn't it?
I want an England team where the players are picked on merit as opposed to the rote accorded to players such as Owen but I gear the chances of that are slim to non-existent.
Not only do we have the worst England manager we have ever had, but one so lacking in spine to the degree that he lets the Sun and the Mirror pick our national team. What do they know about football? Which Sunday league team have Fat Martin Samuels or Mihir Bose ever played for?
