Right, seeing as we seem to have an abundance of driving threads today, I think we shall have another, though with a slightly different angle which might be relevant for some other people too.

Having recently passed my test, I’m in the position where I’m considering buying a car in the not too distant future, but basically have no clue where to look, what to look for and basically just most of the general things about maintaining a car. I’ll need one for August/September time when I need to be travelling from Hull to York on a daily basis for a course I want to do, so I guess I’m going to be looking in the summer, but wanted to find out a bit more in advance, which is where OTF comes in.

So yeah, any information on the likely cost of purchasing a car, how much it would cost to run it, all of the other extra things that you have to pay for etc would be handy. Should I be looking at new or used ones, if used, where would I be best looking? I don’t need anything great, but at the same time I’d be prepared to spend a bit more if it meant that it wouldn’t be breaking down every five minutes.

Any particular cars that you would recommend or say would be best to avoid? Is there a particularly good time to buy?

Any other dos and don’ts that I should bear in mind, no matter how seemingly obvious? Any useful websites etc would be appreciated too.

That exact one from Stalybridge Motors Eric?

It's not far from me and I've always thought their cars are a bit overpriced. You'd probably get the same car cheaper somewhere else.

Really

That looks pretty decent price wise for what you're getting and only 12,000 miles on the clock, still having a look round but thats the best i've seen
