It is difficult getting your first car if you don't have access to someone that can take you anywhere. Ended up picking the cheapest one within a 2-3 mile radius of my old student house at the time.
This time, now that I've been able to go to dealers all over Yorkshire and beyond, I've ended up buying from one that's a 10 minute walk away from my current flat |

Advice on buying small cars.
Don't !
I've been driving a Suzuki Alto for a while, until it broke, and it was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever driven. And that includes Land Rovers, Minis and small Fords.

Meh, absolutely nothing wrong with the Fiesta or similar cars for what I need it for, more than happy with it so far.
I can see what you mean about the Alto though, having been in one last week. The seat seemed really weird, at the bottom if felt ok, but it went back at an angle so if you adjusted it, the lower part of the seat wouldn't be right. The new Swift is much better.

I bought a Hyundai Lantra a few weeks ago. 2000 model with 24000 miles on the clock. Paid £350 for it. Did two trips down south for work, 40p a mile which adds up to £500. Car paid for. Everything from here is profit. Cheap motoring at it's best.
