Cars are ranked into insurance brackets. Cars with higher performance will be in a higher bracket... cars that are targets for theft will be in a higher bracket.
The lower the bracket the cheaper your insurance... here's a way to search for models in bracket (use the right-hand search and pick say, 5) http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/Groups/default.aspx |

From that you can see that the Audi A3 is in group 9 while cars like the SEAT Leon is in group 5. It will depend on the engine size though.
Of course where you live, your age, gender etc does effect insurance massively - but the car does also have an impact.

I'd go for the Yaris if I had to buy a cat 1 car - but I'm totally sold on Jap cars now. The Citreon is sexier though but European cars usually are.

How much more would a cat 2 be than a cat 1 then for instance, roughly?

There's an article on Insurance too.
That's the best site on the net for financial matters... and no, I'm not on commission (it's a free site!) |

| Ah, to be honest as long as it gets me from A to B I'm not really too bothered about having a bigger engine for the sake of it, just want something practical and affordable at this stage.

You can reduce insurance by up to 50% if you do the Pass Plus course
