i want to start playing golf so the last few weeks ive been down the driving range and am quite amazed that i can actually hit it, albeit with no sort of control.
anyway, ive decided one of the things that is hindering me (apart from the fact i dont know what im doing) is that im too tall for normal clubs. do they make clubs for tall people and is there a site online i can look at for prices etc?
also, for people that are good, when you were starting out did you find it best to get professional lessons or just learn by doing sort of things?
this thread can be used to ask lots of golf querstions as golf is fb.
Been playing on and off for about 2 years now, only relevant point from the questions you raised I'd say is I've always just played having a laugh with mates, no real progress but the past two weeks I've gone with a mate from work who plays off a handicap of 6, he's taught me so much already, by that token it probably would be worth while getting professional lessons, if you can afford them anyway as they are not cheap.
The passage from the book "Goldfinger" about the pressure of a golfer made me want to play golf when I was young... Then I saw which people played gold and the ambition died fairly quickly
I'm alright really. not the biggest hitter, but I have a bit of natural draw on my drives (about 180-220 yards) and my irons are dead straight.
better short and straight than long and in the trees. or something.
can't hit 3 or 4 irons effectively off the ground yet. still need to tee them up.
I have a slow 3/4 back swing, and then power through gaining the necessary club head speed. probably why I'm not the biggest of hitters. but it's consistent, and suits me for now. so that's the main thing.
