going to phone the local club about lessons tomorrow.

Fed up of shooting 7s and 8s constantly with the occassional 4 or 5 on the local 9 hole par 3 course.

Need to have somebody help me improve my game and coach me properly as opposed to my family and friends having a go cos i'm doing it wrong

Yeah, it took me few shots to work out the hit it like a iron works best

I went to the driving range Sat and Sun last weekend. Was meant to play a round Sunday but my mate cried off. Just as well as that could have been a bad move with the little practice with them.

Driving range tomorrow, a round Saturday (06:15 tee off :eek and Im breaking the ton

Loved your comments about TM lofts. My mate is always having little sly digs at me saying things like "If it was me I'd hit a 9 iron but you probably want an 8 instead". The lofts on his R7s are on average at least 2 degrees less lofted than mine so I can tell him to hit 8.5 iron instead

It's a good idea Gregg. I had one lesson at the start and I think it was the best money I've spent on golf... gave me a foundation before I brought in my own habits.

And don't listen to rcjuk - he's just fallen under the spell of the wrong crowd without Bling's guidance!

Ugghh I hate people that say stuff like that. One hole at our course is a short par 3 over water to a small green. One of my mates hits a PW, but I use an 8 iron. Now I can hit a PW to this green (I've done it) but I play a half swing with my 8 which gives me more control and a better strike - while he's giving it 100% and shanking into the trees half-the-time.

Still thinks there's kudos in him playing his PW though.

i've never had lessons, so doubtless my swing contains all manner of faults. it is quite good fun trying to correct errors yourself though. my game currently contains a hideously uncomfortable 'pinning' of my left foot, pointing directly in front of me and totally immobile. only thing i have found to stop me pulling long irons/woods straight left.

I only had the one lesson zink - and I am dedicated enough (or was) to work on my swing methodically (unlike normal Range Monkeys getting their drivers out and just wacking that for half an hour!).

But most people aren't that interested in learning about swing mechanics - they just want to hit the ball better and they can get that from a pro within an hour (if he's any good - and 5 minutes if it's John Jacobs!).
