Observer Sports Monthly

There was a very interesting piece in yesterday's OSM about the future of Global sport.
The key part of the piece seems to be that India and China will make or break a sport's global popularity (numbers wise obv.).

When I was out in India they were crazy about this girl Sania Mirza who teeters on the Top 20 of the WTA rankings. The piece makes a very good point of how much of an effect one Indian player in the Premiership will have.
Ditto for the likes of the new Indian GP team (ex Spyker) and the new Twenty/20 league out there.

The other point was made in regards to countries/ stadia financially bidding for matches such as Champs L final or Olympics.

Anyway it's a good read, so get cracking.

Read it yesterday and wasn't that keen on the whole globalisation of sport that it was touting. The Ricky Hatton article was pretty good though.

Neither am I and I don't think that in the long run certain sports are going to make it (NFL and cricket for example).
But I really do see the likes of full Premiership games being played outside Europe and countries like India and China having a much greater control of the sporting marketplace.
The fact that most sports are now run by the money men makes this situation unavoidable.

Once top flight football here hopped on the $ky gravy train it was almost certain that to keep the engine careering away it was going to end up exploiting new markets. Firstly in the form of TV (Star Sports etc) but ultimately in the form of taking games around the world to get some more of that lovely cash.

Snia Mirza has nice boobies

Cricket will make it to a degree, due to the huge and fanatical support in the sub-continent.
