I've got a regular B&W logo that I'd like to add a little color to. I'm using photoshop CS and I've messed with the "Replace Color" feature but I can't get it to do anything. I would just select the black portion and then fill w/ my color but I'm getting jaggies etc...

i am thinking it might be your eyes. when i used 336 as the blue color it did change but it was so close to black i had to really look just to tell. i changed to yellow just to show you. i set my tolerance at 2 and just used the bucket tool. its not real clean cause i just did it in 30 seconds but here is what i came up with

This is how I did it...
- I selected the text with the magic wand
- Expanded the selection by 1
- I used the color replacement tool with 70% tolerence

Just as ooptea pointed out, the blue colour you mentioned is very close to black. Just to make the colour change more visible I added a second version.



But if you want to use this as a logo for print etc I would recommend you to recreate it using illustrator or a similar vector based app.

I just came up with a better method (I think).

I pasted your attached image into a new document twice, giving me two identical layers with the logo. I colorized the top-layer to a suitable color. The complete logo will have a blue hue and you wanted just the text blue right? Use the magic wand to select the text and a vector mask. Now the text is blue (you can easily change the colour [Ctrl+U] )and the lines are intact and grey.

Or, you could select the text you want using the wand tool and choose 'layer via copy' Then, with the selection layer highlighted, go to image > adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Be sure the 'colorize' option is selected and adjust the text color to a color and shade of your liking.
