Thanks for everything big Jaap

So many memorable moments, but this, for me, is still one of the highlights. The fear of the dirty fecker is so clear

"Header away by Stam"

It was incredible how often the commentators said that when he was playing, such was his dominance in the air.

still probably the best centre-back we've had in my lifetime, although Rio and Vida aren't far off. ridiculous decision to get rid, think even SAF realises that now. will always remember his Lazio unveiling - he looked utterly bewildered and devastated to have left us. would have been easy for Jaap to get a real downer on MUFC after the way he was forced out but that never materialised - never anything other than a class act.

I blame Fergie. Bloody idiot, if he weren't so stubborn, he would have won them so many more trophies/ Worst mistake in his career as manager....Good thing I'm a Gooner though :p

The highest compliment that can be paid to Jaap, is that at his peak he was the greatest centre half in world football.

Best thing about Stam, think it was against Inter on TV, some forward (Mancini ?) was trying to back up and back up against Stam, really trying to throw himself to make Stam move, but Stam stayed solid like a rock. Mancini just turned round and Stam gave him the stare.

I am taller than Jaap Stam. Fact. Met him in HMV (Metal Section) at Trafford Centre, took time out for a chat
