I have to have my personal statement first draft done by tomorrow and i have no idea how i am going to go about it ...

I know what Uni i want to go (Leeds or Manchester) and what course i want to take (Architecture) but my form tutor said it has to be 45 lines and im not sure how im going to fill them all ...

Does anyone have any ideas for what im supposed to include in my personal statement?

Why you're attracted to the university, why you want to do the course, how your A-level subjects have helped you (both with the subject you want to do and in general), interests/hobbies.

Don't be pretentious, write how you would normally talk.

Arent it just the usual crap that people write in things like CVs? Talk about how great your're and how you have a real passion for the course/Uni. Stuff they want to hear

there's website dedicated to stuff like this. try thestudentroom.co.uk and filling 45 lines isn't that hard if you waffle about how you love the course

Go to the open days at both places for your course. In that open day they will tell you what qualities you need to have to suceed on your course and at the given Uni.

Then write your personal statements to suit. Lie about little things (captain of football team, class prefect etc) but bigger ones will probably catch you out should they offer you an interview.

Also, write drafts and hand them to a couple of teachers and then you will get lots of ideas to make it better.

General outline would be.

Why you want to study the course.

Current studies and how they relate to and will help you with the course you want to study.

Personal interests and how they relate to the course you want to study.

Summarasing paragraph, something about why you would be a good student for them.

Talk about yourself, your values, your achievements and how they fit into the philosophy of the school.

Talk bout the interests you have, and how it fits into the curriculum of the course you have applied to.

Talk about your career goals and how the curriculum fits into that to.


The idea is to try to make a 'best fit'. What you want should fit into what the school wants.
