Default Adobe buys Macromedia... first evidence of change

This may not be new to anybody but me but the first result I've seen of Adobe's purchase of Macromedia is the licensing of Fontographer to FontLab. I think that's good news as the FontLab folks say their first priority is to update Fontographer to work with Windows XP and Mac OS X. There does not seem to be an indication that the software will be merged with FontLab but rather stay a separate entity which will bridge the complexity gap between TypeTool and FontLab as an intermediate application which is more valuable for publishing pros than the total complexity of FontLab.

http://www.fontlab.com/index.php

(rummage around the Fontographer links as there are several pages which deal with the substance of the merger and future plans.)

I'm wondering if Fireworks, Freehand and GoLive will follow the same route?

Could they refuse the sell it so someone (apple?) or it has to stay open for purchase by the greatest bidder?

I read a lot of good things about "homesite" a nice small website creation tool...

The funniest things I read about the merger is that Macrobe will sell new programs: GoDream, Frustrator, WorkShop

I still wish it had been the other way around (I don't like Apple, Microsoft and Adobe: too big, too powerful) but ok...it's like that.

My hopes now are that Photoshop will get rid of ImageReady as Fireworks is by far superior, and that it will get the Macromedia style interface.

I have MX, never upgraded to 2004, and I am more than happy with it.
Homesite comes for free with DW. It is, afaik, Windows only.
Just like that great interface.

I agree whole heartedly. Fireworks is really a neat program and I would LOVE to see that replace ImageReady which I NEVER use as it's just kinda lame!! :B

A friend of mine works at Adobe so I just wrote her tonight asking her what was up and if she would be willing to share some info with me about what's coming with all this gain for Adobe (and hopefully Macromedia too!).

All the best
