I have been suspended from work with pay for failing to for fill my contracted hours (basically i left early on Sunday to the match) which they have said is gross misconduct.
This is my first offence. Is it possible for them to dismiss me or do they have to go through other disciplinary procedures first?
gross missconduct is an instant dismissal, no need for any other procedures like written warnings etc etc, although they should review your case before they kick you outta the door.
Had a mate who got done for gross misconduct. Works at a bank, guy comes in, says "Guess what i want?". Sarcastically, he replies "A burger and fries?"
Dont think I will get sacked I just wanted to know where i stand. My argument is that last last Sunday afternoon and last Tuesday I was told to go home/not come in because there was no work but these are also contracted hours. So they are not sticking to their side of the contract. Do I have a case to fight back if I am sacked?

Customer complained. He didn't get sacked though.
If that's gross misconduct then I'm really glad I don't work with customers.
