If that's gross misconduct then I'm really glad I don't work with customers. </BLOCKQUOTE>

The stupidity of the average person makes customer related jobs something generally bad tbf.

What the hell was the customer expecting him to say with a question like that?

I know from experience you need to put up with a lot of stupid stuff from customers.

Did they pay you for those hours even though they sent you home?

Leaving from work without permission for a football match sounds much like gross misconduct.

Pretty sure that unless your contract says otherwise, a blatant breach of your contract by yourself is a sackable offence with no requirement to go down the disciplinary procedures route.

If you've been there a few years you can claim unfair dismissal, but obviously in this case you wouldn't win.

I don't think you have much of a case.

Devils Advocate: They pay you for the hours, and in the examples you've given, they sent you home knowingly. Leaving of your own volition is going to be against your contract and at worst, tantamount to stealing - they pay you to be there, you're not there but receiving their money.

As you state that you don't believe that they'll fire you, I would have thought it would be better to come clean, apologise, point to your good work ethic with examples of other occasions where you've worked longer than expected or beyond the call of duty. It's not that you feel the company owes you this, but that you're a good worker and that they shouldn't look to replace you. I'd also state that it was a one off and that it won't happen again. If I were your employer and was looking to keep you despite of this incident, that's what I'd want to hear.

Obviously I don't know the whole story, but good luck whatever you choose.

I was thinking of goin that way. I am only contracted to 20 hours a week but since ive finnsihed Uni about 4 months ago ive been doin 40+ hours a week so that should work in my favour. I have already addimitted to why i left early so i guess I should just appologies and hope for the best
