Also I've heard that the "fat thumb" syndrome is a major downside when using the touch screen.

Do the 'better' phones combine the two?
It’s probably more a convenience thing for users who don’t want to have to carry both a mobile and ipod around everywhere.

Can be quite a bit at times.
In the summer when I don't want to wear a jacket I want as few things to cram into my pockets as possible so sometimes have to leave the ipod at home to fit in everything else so it would be easier to combine the phone and ipod.
