Cheque Clearing
I paid a cheque in on Monday and know that it should clear for tomorrow, but will I be able to access it at midnight or am I going to have to wait till the morning?
The bank is HSBC if that makes any difference.

How do you know?
cheques can take between 1 and 10 (although clearing banks like to state 3 and 5 ) working days...
What difference does midnight to tomorrow am make?
For my client, a non clearing bank, it would be ~ 4am.

And cheques can be recalled many many months later , so although they are "cleared funds" , if theres anything dodgy (ie ebay 3rd party) then be aware.

I don't, I'm assuming that it will be cleared for tomorrow as it always seem to.
Rather pathetically I need a smoke and have no money till I can draw from that cheque, hence the midnight query.

HSBC should allow you to draw on uncleared funds, but be aware they'll rape you if it doesn't clear.
HSBC are not in my good books of late.

hahahaha.
sorry, never heard of anyone waitng for a cheque to clear so they can smoke a fag
if its a hsbc cheque going into hsbc bank account then it clears same day. although saying that, i found it impossible to pay my cc bill with them. they dont take cash payments in branch (at meadowhall) and dont do card payments over the phone :thdn: so anything is possible with them.

It's sad isn't it, but in my defence I get paid by cheque so I have no choice in the matter.

As in I can use my debit card in a shop? As I know I can't draw money out from a cashpoint till it clears.

As in you should go to one of their ATM's and attempt a cash clearance.
And that's hardly a defence for £5 clearance!

If their ATM wont allow a clearance then a debit card certainly wont.
You could always write a cheque if the settlement party allows it.
