Pocket Money. How much? When? Was it unconditional?
I'm trying to think of a way to motivate the gf's 13 year old son to a) do his homework earlier & b) improve the standard.
He responds better to carrot than stick and i'm thinking that pocket money is the way forwards.
Currently he just gets things purchased for him.
I would like to hear your experiences. Do you get PM (or give - for those of us old enough)? If so, how much and how often? Was it given conditionally?

trouble is with that sort of thing is its a fine line between being a motivational target for them to acheive and them just thinking they should get something for doing things. Why should he get money for doing his homework? I reckon drop the occasional treat if he starts consistently doing it, see if he learns that way, otherwise one day you'll get an exchange that goes like
"put the kettle on for us mate"
"what will i get for it?"

my girlfriend is so spoilt, although she doesnt actually act spoilt. Dad gives her and her 3 sisters £500 a month each just for shopping and that she just saves hers though

he's 13 and he just gets things bought for him? How do you expect him to learn the value of money? He'll probably be crippled with credit card debts by the time he's 23. Give him an allowance and stop buying things for him, let him top it up by doing jobs if he wants, and fine him for mis-behaving.
