I will probably do exactly the same with my kids. Give them a fixed amount, and if they want anything they'll have to save up for it.
I am extremely good with money - always have been, and I'm sure it's down to the way I was brought up in this respect.
I've just used an inflation calculator and 30p a week (in 1979) would only be £1.19 now - my parents were bastards... no wonder I never got an Evel Kneival toy!! |

I remember when i was about 13 my parents gave me £3 a day lunch money but i used to sneakily make sandwiches to take to school and pocket the £3 |

I got 3 punts a week up until I was about 13 then my parents bought a bar and I got 50p an hour for stacking the fridges/ collecting glasses etc.
