"put the kettle on for us mate"

| Yes, that's my main reservation about it. But we do get the typical Kevin response when we ask him to do things like getting used cutlery from his room, or putting his shoes in the correct place.
Also, he has a sister, and she is excellent at doing her schoolwork - so we would be shelling out a fortune on her.

and fwiw I got pocket money from the age of 6 or something, only 50p a week, and ofc most of my stuff was bought for me still, but if I really wanted something that my parents weren't willing to buy for me then I had to save for it, ofc I never did I got my money on a Friday and spent it all in the post office on the way home from school on sweets.
But by the age of 13 I was getting £5 a week, plus what I earnt from my paper round, and apart from Xmas and birthdays I didn't get anything bought for me.

Its not as clear cut as things getting bought for him. But he sees not incomings & outgoings as such.
Your point about his future cash flow management is a good one.

10p a week, which rose to a staggering 30p a week by the time I was about 9 or 10.

Can't remember how much, maybe something like 5 quid a week. I am sure alot of people started getting pocket money the same way as me. There comes a point when your parents feel you're old enough and they give you that "you can have your own money and do what you want or we'll get you things when you want them but it's up to us" thing

My pocket money peaked at £10 a week, but I occasionally got a top up if I had a lot of things on. Most of it got spent following the mighty Tigers around the country.
My gran gave me 10p a week too, for as long as I could remember. Which was fine when I was 7 or 8 and that would buy a few sweets, but when I was 15 and it wasn't enough for a bag of crisps it's taking the **** really. Come on Grandma, get with the 1980's ffs.
