Default Another Platini Suggestion Re: Champions League spots

I checked quickly for a thread, apologies if there is one or its been posted in one of the champs league threads

Quote:
Platini critical of Wenger policy

Uefa president Michel Platini has criticised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and other clubs who buy players at a young age.
Wenger is famous for investing in burgeoning talent and developing youngsters into major stars.

But Platini is not a fan of his fellow Frenchman's strategy and said: "I do not like the system of Arsene Wenger.

"In France, Italy and Spain it is easy to buy with money the best players at 14, 15 or 16. I don't like that."

He added: "If the best clubs buy the best 15 or 16 players that is finished for all the clubs in Europe.

I am very open to everybody and what is good for football

Platini on his Champions League proposals:

"If my son is playing at Millwall and at 16 Manchester come in for this player then when will Millwall have a good team?"

Platini is keen for countries to give one of their Champions League qualifying positions to the winners of the domestic cup competition and Uefa will hold a meeting on 12 November to discuss the proposal, among other options.

"The leagues are not so in favour of this proposal but the clubs and the national associations are more in favour of this.

"But I am very open to everybody and what is good for football, not for me and my ideas but for football."

Platini actually making what I think is a good suggestion for once, gives a real incentive to the FA Cup or domestic trophies in general (if there isn't enough incentive already). It should prevent weaker teams being put out by Premier League Clubs.

Gotta so I don't believe him when he says "I am open to everyone", he's not another Blatter but seemed pretty bad. This is a step in the right direction if true.

(This is from serial 3rd/4th place finishing Liverpool fan)

Yeah, damn Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and United not taking the FA cup seriously.

Almost as daft as the thought of Platini's son playing for Millwall.

And yes it's the same idea as last time.

Probably been made before - I don't think it's come from him before - but it being reiterated can't hurt. If he is serious about it it is a step in the right direction for bringing back the spirit of the cup

I think a major point about this is perhaps not the actual idea but he just comes across as a more down to Earth person than Blatter ever did. Maybe he ha a better PR man?

Sure the main 4 normally win it every year, but didn't Millwall get into the final a few years ago, so did the Hammers....

Ridiculous to reward a CL position to a losing finalist though, because you're just increasing the chances of luck getting someone a spot (all **** teams in your side of the draw and you're rewarded for that?)

A quick fixing of the draw could solve that tbh.

Yeah Platini the man who wants tackling banned from football. Real down to earth fan's man.

Imo if the winner of the national trophy is in the top 3 then it should be the next place in the league as you can't be rewarded for runner up I agree. I'm sure they will have thought of that though.
