I think it is a good idea in England because the FA cup should be more important than 4th place in the league.

But I don't think it should be applied to all leagues. Because in a lot of countries I don't think the cup is that important.

I don't see what is wrong with buying 14-16 years olds. It takes more effort to develop a 15 year old then buy an older player.

The only isssue is if it has a negative impact on lots of young players that don't make it. And whether they would have been better off developing at a smaller club.

And it means that one of the big four will actually have to try if they want to qualify 'cos they won't all get a league spot.
In english football there is no problem to fix in the national cup (it is the FA Cup we're talking about). The top 4 IS trying to win it and the DO win it most of the time, so what's the point???

How about changing the name to "Euro Cup" or something like that so we could be rid of all this whining...

Just don't seed the Champions League to bring back some of the magic, unless of course it went the whole way and became a knockout competition - that ain't gonna happen though.

How about just allowing the Champions into the Champions League?

Then the UEFA Cup and Super Cup would actually have some purpose and domestic leagues and cups would be competitive again.
sigh.

why would anybody want a situation where the 2nd rate competition is harder to win than the 1st?

So you think that for one of the few leagues/nations where the cup actually means something the incentive should be increased but for those where the cup isn't important it should stay that way???

I don't think it needs to be done to force teams to take the FA cup more seriously.

Historically finishing 4th does not mean much. It just feels natural that the glory of winning the FA cup should be rewarded more than finishing 4th.

You also hear mid table teams obsessing about breaking into the top 4 or aspiring to be a regular top 4 side. I think it makes it more interesting if every team knows that they have a chance of winning a Champions League's place if they can win the FA Cup.

It is a more tangible dream than having to finish in the top 4. So I think it mixes it up.

=--------------=

I think it is reasonable in England since they have 4 spots. But not in a league where they had 2 spots.
