I'm laughing at people in the finance sector. Work ridiculous hours for money they never get to enjoy until it's too late. And quite often they are also irritating buggers.

my sister works in london and does all these long hours. currently working from 9am and not finishing til 9 or 10 at night. also has to go in at weekends sometimes.

ok so she earns about £10k more than me but she lives in a house with 7 other people where as i have my own house in a nice village in lincolnshire and work about 35 hours a week on average.

Its all relative... if you like your job, sometimes it doesn't matter how many hours you work.. Look at the SI guys, a lot of them work long hours.

Its also due to personal reasons, some people are just not motivated/ambitious/challenged enough to want to do longer hours if it means a climb up.

If you're happy with what you have and the hours you work, then fair play.

Depends on your point of view. Couldn't think of much worse than having my own house in a village in Lincolnshire at the moment, couldn't think of much better than living in London earning a lot living with 7 other people.

If I go home feeling I've really earnt my money then I've obviously been working too hard.

If that happens too often, I'll need a payrise to make sure it doesn't happen any more.

I average about 60-70 hours a week of work...for the company I work for...and inbetween I do private work when I can and time permits.

But I'm really close to cutting it down to 40-50-ish hours per week...and just doing more private work.

I used to have it easy, worked 9-5 with paid lunch mon-thurs. So had a great 3 days off every week. Now that my fiance lives with me and maxes out 2 credit cards on a monthly basis I have to work 8-6 mon-sat...It's like having a wonderful toy at home that you can't play with because you have to work to keep it...I no longer envy the 18 hour workaholics with a ferrari.

In the office now \o/ - investment banks ftw.

I have an easy week this week though, ill be finished by 7ish. No lunch though, 40mins for the gym if i get the time though.

I work stupidly short hours compared to of the guys here, but I work stupidly long hours compared to people not in the profession. I was under no illusions of what the hours were going to be like when I signed up, and I've had no reservations about the hours since ive been here. Apart from constantly letting my house mate down for mid week football, unless United are playing then my boss can gtf.

Been doing 8:30-6:30 on average recently, but thats only because I've taken on extra work + covering for people's holidays. Should calm down again soon, 9-5:30 ftw.
