surprised we've not had a thread already. Pretty disgusted by the killing etc terrible, shouldn't have happened yadda yadda.
But I want to know who came out with "he jumped the barrier", "he was running", "he resisted arrest", "he refused to stop", "he was wearing a bomber jacket", I never believe them at the time, but as far as I can tell they came from the police, and were fully embraced by the media, or maybe it was the other way around. Either way it's shocking that people can come up with blatant lies to attempt to cover up an unlawful killing, and so far I've not seen any repercussions because of it. People make mistakes (though this one in particular is inexcusable for me), but lying to cover them up is not a mistake, yet everyone seems to be focusing on the actual killing and not the subsequent bunch of lies we were told afterwards. Maybe it's because they happily went along with them and encouraged them.
I always remember an 'eye-witness' who was first whored by BBC and then Sky, stating that he saw this 'arab-looking guy' jumping the barriers, resisting arrest, reaching for his back pack then being shot at before he could blow a bomb.
Yup - it seems that the top bloke at the police is going to keep his job over this. Whatever happened to falling on your own sword and accepting responsibility for a major f**kup ? Those in power/top positions don't do that anymore, which is surely down a a lack of personal morality, IMO.

well I don't think he's in anyway responsible for what happened and so him going wouldn't do any good, the way he handled the situation afterwards is different though, sometimes you shouldn't protect those below you no matter what. If they've made a mistake you should hold them accountable, not accept them covering it up.
I don't like the calls from the Tories or Lib Dems for him to resign though, the whole point of resignations is it's his choice. Sack him if needs be, and complain about him not being sacked if you want, but don't complain about him not resigning.

whs, tragic mistakes happen and should be a lesson for all but shamelessly lying with impunity prevents any learning.
It used to be that the man at the top would resign, when no-one person could be found to blame (ie - a fault of the system). Afterall, he's at the top and is paid the big bucks, so should therefore carry the can.
