some of these eye witness accounts are just so wrong its almost funny

"After the officers were ordered to stop him from entering the station at all costs, they challenged him before he crossed the main road to the station.

When they drew their weapons and shouted “Stop, armed police”, the man looked over his shoulder and bolted. He was described as being very fit and agile. "

"Another witness said that the suspect boarded the Tube and attempted to take a hostage before he was shot.

Dan Copeland, a Northern Line passenger, told BBC News: “The man burst in through the carriage door to my right and grabbed hold of the pole and a person by the glass partition near the door, diagonally opposite me. "

yeah lots of people have been saying how stupid it is fining the police as it only takes away resources and uses up more of the tax payers money.

Not too sure making the police seem like vilians is too clever either. Those on the job made a judgement call and got it wrong. Next time the hesitation in shooting might be enough time for a real suicide bomber to blow himself and potentialy hundreds of other up.

Check the Daily Mail headline tomorrow morning. I am certain BG wrote it

At the end of the day, they will have been following someone's orders. If that person cannot be identified and is therefore a problem with the system, then the man at the top should take responsibility.

There is little/no accountability in the corridor's of power these days. For the average Joe, if you drop a major bo11ock in your job, you can (and more often than not) will be out on your arse. Why should top bosses be any different ?

Afghanistan and Iraq are proper shooting wars now. Much better to get the army sneaky beakies out of that and onto surveillance in the UK where they can be more use. The police always **** it up, whereas the army doesn't lean to panicked overreactions.

Was actualy speaking to someone i know who was involved on the day. He was part of counter terrorism squad, and from what I understand, they were tracking him but didnt think he was actualy a bomber as they wouldnt have let him get near a train station, they passed him on to another unit and somewhere along the line it was passed down to stop him at all costs. His team have actualy been giving evidence for the prosicution in this case.
He puts it down to the fact there were a lot of 'top brass' in the control room that day which just confused things as everyone was jumpy and wanted to take control (too many cooks and all that).
