The game has turned into a bit of a shambles really, thanks mainly to EA and their ideas for the future of gaming.
It was always known that you would have to pay the monthly subscription charges to be able to play in the persistent online environment, and there were talks of subscribers getting additional content, but there's no way anyone predicted EA's actual idea. They've released the game with half the content on disc "locked", with it only being available to subscribers. It's not even extras for online play only, it's things like the inventory system (pretty much a must have for a Diablo style RPG ffs), the difficulty settings are locked, you cannot get some of the better character types. Imagine Oblivion if you had to pay ten bucks per month to be able to carry extra gear, or play as any class other than bard. Locking half the available skills also not making EA popular.
Could have been a great game (horrific Mary Poppins style voice acting aside), but EA have made sure they snuff most of the fun out of it. After Diablo and it's sequel, this is disappointing from Flagship, and perhaps an indication why getting on board with EA could be the death of them.
Oh, and rumours of the fact only subscribers will be able to get their hands on patches (the game is more than a little buggy, a few missions cannot be completed due to faults) are being denied by both EA and Flagship, although they refused to comment on questions of just how much support non-subscribers can expect.
