It's sky lanterns. Saw loads of them get set off at a music festival in the summer and they are like mini hot air baloons you just release into the sky.

Quite possibly an air balloon. Years ago, my dad, brother and I were driving and saw some in the distance, so being the nosey parker my dad is, we had to go and investigate.

Was quite disappointed when it was only an air balloon just landing.
