You've just borrowed the concept and adapted it
successfully with own characters etc, slightly different to a straight remake.

Presumably the deal means they get the right to use the same storylines, and even use the same scripts if they want (as with the first episode of the US Office). Plus they won't risk getting sued for doing a shameless rip-off of the idea.
