Royle isn't terrible, but it's not an appointment to set pulses racing. Souness has shown himself to be average at best, it's difficult to imagine that working out either.
But it's the fact they've interviewed Peter Reid that is truly jaw-dropping. He often appears on bookies' lists for who's going to be the next manager of somewhere, but I consider them completely meaningless. If it's true that they're interviewing him and he's got any chance of getting this job, it really makes the mind boggle.
A man who puts his life, soul and money into this club has a very, very important decision to make and seems to have no idea at all how to make the right one. I reckon literally 95% of people who follow football would be able to tell you that appointing Reid would be a total disaster.
It's truly mystifying. Bolton and Sammy Lee, Wigan and Chris Hutchings and Sheffield United and Bryan Robson are other recent examples. How can they lack a clue this much? Can someone explain?

Reid did a great job at Sunderland, until it began to fell apart. Not sure if the financial interest that he had in the club at the time, was a factor in the decline. Suffice to say he's done nout worthy of note since.
One thing all of those have is not only PL experience, but how to get out of the Championship.

Am I the only one who would prefer Peter Reid to the other two? Gees, is this the dearth of managerial talent available in the UK (what with this list and Roeder getting the Norwich job)?
I feel for Leicester fans. Milan so wants a big name, but hasn't realised that his big-name list is about 10-15 years out of date.

I'm suprised no-one ever enquires about Eric Black, had us playing good football, with sh1te players, never been given a fair crack of the whip this side of the border.

Who would make a good appointment from the unemployed managers out there?
They should go for someone who's doing well in the lower leagues. It doesn't always work out of course, but that course of action proves to be successful far, far more often than appointing someone with a proven track record of failure.
It might cost some compensation, but it would be less than a million. Getting the right manager is possibly the most important thing a chairman can do, so that shouldn't be too relevant. Especially when they've spent £2.5 million on DJ Campbell, or however much it was.

BG and Gav Stone - Peter Reid was absolutely shambolic at Coventry. He turned a side playing great football and getting good results into one playing terrible football and getting bad results. He lasted half a season, gave off a big impression of not being arsed, apparently didn't turn up to one of our away games, and was sacked with us in 21st place despite not having particularly bad players. Everyone knew it was going to happen, too.
His next job was managing a team of celebrities in one of those daft games sky shows iirc
