Who would make a good appointment from the unemployed managers out there?
| They should go for someone who's doing well in the lower leagues. It doesn't always work out of course, but that course of action proves to be successful far, far more often than appointing someone with a proven track record of failure.
It might cost some compensation, but it would be less than a million. Getting the right manager is possibly the most important thing a chairman can do, so that shouldn't be too relevant. Especially when they've spent £2.5 million on DJ Campbell, or however much it was. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Spending 2.5m on Campbell was a lower league managers choice tbh.

Everyone knew it was going to happen, too.
His next job was managing a team of celebrities in one of those daft games sky shows iirc
| true, but my point was he is the best of a bad bunch.

Wouldn't agree with that at all. He's the worst of a bad bunch. Royle's been fairly successful most places he's been if I remember rightly? Fb with Oldham ages ago, got City promoted from Division Two, almost got Ipswich promoted but then the side got absolutely destroyed in the summer. That was his last job. Souness did averagely at Blackburn and then a bit below averagely at Newcastle, that's it. Reid did well at Sunderland (team carried a lot by Niall Quinn imo), then really badly at Sunderland, then badly at Leeds, then incredibly badly at Coventry.
Reid would easily be the worst appointment out of those managers in my opinion.

Christ - would have none of them tbh.
Better shortlist would be:
Gary Johnson
Paul Jewell
Simon Grayson

I'd take Souness over Reid any day. Not that it really says much about Souness, but he's not horrible. His first three years at Rovers were great. From bottom half of the championship when he took over mid-season to being promoted the next season, and the season after that finishing 10th and winning the League Cup, and finishing 6th the next season. He did lose the plot a bit after that, but he's still better than many of the other names always being mentioned.
Tended to mix the good signings (Friedel, Emerton, Tugay, MGP) with the bad (Grabbi, Ferguson, Amoruso), you'd never know quite what to expect.

Milan claims only one of those three is on his list, and bookies have stopped taking bets on Souness to Wigan.
Would be interesting to see what Joe could do tbh. Always thought he was OK. Been out of management for a while though.

To be honest, given the amount of managers Leicester have gone through recently, anyone in a job who makes the jump would have to be very brave.
Royle would probably be my choice of those three, if I had to pick one for Brighton. But I don't, because Dean Wilkins is God
