I don't rate Ian Harte, but when did he fail? </BLOCKQUOTE>

At Leeds for season after season. He was absolutely terrible defensively, only his set pieces and ability coming forward early in his career clouded peoples judgement on him. By the tme he left he was an absolute joke.

For Ireland he was terrible under McCarthy at left sided centre half in a back three, when McCarthy though he was going to be a centre half. Then latterly for Ireland - especially in WC 2002 when he was sustituted in almost every game, with Kilbane moving back.

His last two or three seasons over here he was absolute garbage - when two from Ferdinand, Woodgate or Radebe were fit Matteo would move to left back and replace him at Leeds. Then Venables tried to replace him with Raul Bravo and Lucic and Reid even played Olembe out of position to replace him.

Truly awful defender.

On what basis - the 150 games or so he's played at that level?

He's more than good enough for a bottom half of the table side. Which is what we're aiming for right now. </BLOCKQUOTE>

you'd kind of have to look at how well he's played in those games ("not very" is a clue tbh)

least he's a tryer though </BLOCKQUOTE>

As a centre half I've always quite liked him, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. </BLOCKQUOTE>

How silly of me not to know you've always liked him as a centre half.

I watched him for three years and he is not a premiership quality centre back and certainly not a premeiership quality left back

I think it's fun ny there's still people like you who seem to rate Harte - decent on the ball, good set pieces, but a truly shocking defender.

Higginbotham is no frills, lacks a bit pace - good organiser and very good in the air.

Play in different positions now, but I'm happy to back Higgibotham as a much better player.

I don't rate Harte, but Harte for free &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&g t;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; Higginbotham for 2.5m.

I didn't even suggest you should know that :-/

Yourejudgement isn't clouded on him by the fact he wouldn't sign a new deal at Saints then?

I'm happy to back what I've seen tbh and stick with my own feelings towards him.

all three in the championship at the time iirc

don't get me wrong he's a nice guy and plays his heart out but he is not quick or technical enough at prem level and his positioning is pretty woeful as well

nope only stoke in championship at time and to say he's not quick is bizarre as he converted from a sprinter to play football
