the vast vast majority seem to be taken from the last 20 years. considering it's a stat based one, surely it should be able to accommodate all years of football?

so if we were to do a top 100 welsh rugby players, stick Gavin Henson at #1, all the actual greats around the 80-90 region (apart from a couple who we leave out altogether ofc), you'd think it was a fairly decent list?

I don't think i've commended the criteria in how i've posted. For me the criteria used, although flawed and being a formula i wouldn't myself use, it has for the most part given a list of names that would generally be considered for most lists of these nature. I'd say that a good 80% of that list would generally at the very least, be included on any shortlist for a top players list.

As for you talking about the actual positioning, i'm not sure how that's relevant considering i've already stated the positioning on that list isn't something i'd agree with.

there is no defending this list. the usual 'everyone's list would be different, they're hard to make' arguments don't apply here, because i'm pretty sure no sane person would have Sylvain Wiltord as the 58th best player ever.
