Pretty much spot on. Same reason Konami do what they do wth PES, EA with most of their sports games. Sales talk. People carry on buying each year, they'll carry on making.

In the end though, surely the reason why FM (and other franchise games like PES or even say Total War) make itty bitty progress each year is that economically it's only worth putting in the minimum resources required to add a few bullet points on the box and coax the fan base to make another purchase. They're simply not trying to make the definitive game…and it wouldn’t make sense for them to do so.

I'd agree. Which is why i don't buy every year, and why I'm playing 01/02 for this until this build gets up to something I'll actually enjoy. It's also why I only buy EA stuff every few years (NHL 08 the first one I've bought for four years), and why I've told Konami to stick it this year with their nonsense.
Catch 22 really, because I'm tempted to tell people to quit moaning when they insist on buying stuff each year and expressing surprise that the changes are minimal and there are still bugs, but conversely people have every right to compalin if they aren't happy.
Dunno why you don't all copy me tbh. Might actually get these companies to change their ways.

| Yes, that was one hell of a faux-pas, wasn't it? What become of it? An apology from SI to the person in question? Is the thead still alive? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Completely guessing, have no evidence to back this up, but I'll geuss that absolutely zero happened. One would hope that the Si employee Miles said he was going to rant at on the Monday (as apparently it's all his fault), was just left alone tbh. Utter shambles that was. Actually felt quite sad about it all.

Miles didn't apologise at all. Just made a stupid attempt to justify his actions then closed the thread.
Reminds me of the Eidos guy who went on the CM forums and called his customers "sheep" |

take cm01/02, update it and spruce it up with a bit of new media interaction and updated competitions and add a few new countries that you can play as, and bam, a great game.

| Not sure why pointing out that yearly releases clearly lead to an inferior product is being negative really. Just stating the obvious more than anything.

| Have to agree with the first point there. Baffles me that someone would spend an entire year posting bugs and generally negative views about FM07, yet still go out and buy FM08 on the day of release. And lo and behold, they're unhappy.
