In the increasingly environment concious world we live in I keep hearing "Biodiesel". I'm told it is better for the planet and, crucially in these expensive times, cheaper than the standard petroleum based stuff.
What is it? Are the claims true? Will my P-reg VW Golf Diesel (1.8 TDi) accept it? Is it as efficient (MPG & power)? Where can I get hold of it?
Does anyone use it already, what do you think?

In more useful commentry, I've a case right now where a guy got his car confiscated for using it. The rules have all changed now, but up here it seems garden centres are the best places to get the stuff. Most people seem to mix it 50:50 with regular diesel, or another percentage that suits them. Some people have as much as 90% regular diesel.

Takes about two barrels of crude oil to make one barrel of bio-diesel. Takes more energy to create then it gives out. Hence, inefficient and merely a environmentalist's delusional silver bullet to our long term energy supplies.

A diesel car will run on pretty much anything. Cooking oil is a good one, but it makes your exhaust smell like a chip shop. And if you get caught, you face a fine and your car being impounded.

And if you leave it too long it will solidify and wreck your engine.
