How important is your local football derby in the scheme of your life ?
Derby weekend for us Newcastle supporters, against the mackems. It's almost that time when you get the sick feeling in your stomach on the day of the game, with the result having an impact on your life for the next few days, possibly weeks and months. It's a time when friendships are put to one side for 90 mins as two sides do battle for local pride.
So - how do derby matches and their results affect your life ? Do you get over a loss fairly quickly or does it send you into a spiral of depression or make you angry for a few days ?
For me - a loss to them lot down the road is pretty devastating. Lowest I've felt is losing the playoff semi in 1990. However, a win against them always gives a major boost and none more so than than the 4-1 at their place last time we faced each other. I've got friends who are of the red and white persuasion, so we'll see how it goes this weekend.
